Sunday afternoon and my husband and I are having lunch in the garden. He is brushing the falling wisteria blossom
from his fillet mignon and I am picking it out of my swede puree.
That’ll be the swede puree that I’ve mixed with the spinach puree in order to make it taste slightly different from the
swede and apple puree I consumed an hour ago.
Could this be a religious observance or maybe the latest trend in starters? Have I had some kind of gastric by-pass
or lost all my teeth in a terrible accident? No, this is the baby food diet — and Hollywood stars swear by it.

Jennifer Aniston was said to be using it to get in shape for her rom-com Just Go With It.
Jen, it was reported, was eating 14 portions of baby food purees a day followed by a grown-up dinner of grilled fish
and green vegetables in the evening and had managed to lose 7lbs in a week. Pictures of her with co-star Brooklyn
Decker showed 41-year-old Aniston looking every bit as toned as the Sports Illustrated model, 18 years her junior.
The baby food craze had begun.

DailyMail on Facebook Riding the crest of the publicity wave created by the ‘bikini off’ between Aniston and Decker,
the diet’s creator
Tracy Anderson (the personal trainer also credited with sculpting the figures of Madonna and
Gwyneth Paltrow) stepped into the spotlight. She described her invention as ‘a cleanse where you still eat’.
Rumours that both
Lady Gaga and Reese Witherspoon had also tried it out began to circulate.
And it seems that
Cheryl Cole, in preparation for her appearance as a judge on the U.S. version of the X Factor, has
turned to Anderson and her diet to give her the kind of physical definition she feels U.S. audiences demand. At 5ft
3in Cheryl is apparently worried about looking stumpy and wants, in particular, to improve her legs.
At 5ft 4in, I do have a certain degree of sympathy for Cheryl’s stumpy leg concerns (although she patently doesn’t
need to lose half an ounce, let alone half a stone). At 10 stone 4lbs, however, I reckon I could stand to lose a bit
and, like so many British women, dream of dropping that magic dress size. So I figured that if Cheryl can put up with
baby gloop, then I can too.
Now, it is an oft-repeated piece of weight-loss wisdom that the devil lies in the operational detail. With a regime that
involves eating so frequently, forward planning must be king.


After all, even though my two young children wake me up at 6.30am, I’ll need to be eating every hour in order to fit
the prescribed 14 portions of puree in before ‘enjoying’ my grilled fish and green vegetables.
I toy with the idea of drawing up a puree spreadsheet but decide this will take up valuable pulping time. And what
exactly to pulp? As Tracy Anderson has never published her baby food diet, the plan is open to interpretation. Tracy
counsels against salt, spices and sugars and would, I’m sure, advocate doing the pureeing yourself — although
reports continue to circulate that some celebrities have taken to eating baby food from jars.
I take inspiration from the organic baby puree ranges in my local supermarket and spend a significant portion of
Saturday creating such treats as butternut squash with carrots, apples and prunes.
Watching me go ten rounds with a blender, which refuses to pulp parsnips to my satisfaction, my husband observes
that I might like to try mixing up some wallpaper paste instead. The diet begins in earnest at 6.30am on Monday
morning and by 9am things are going badly.
My 7.30am ‘feed’ goes fine (apple and pear puree: baby jar size portion of) but how to consume a bowl of peach and
banana puree on the school run? I end up tucking it inside the hood of my toddler’s buggy hoping that I might snatch
a minute behind the bike sheds to consume it in private.
I completely forget that it’s there, however, and lose most of it while negotiating a high curb, arriving at school with
pale pink gloop dripping off the shoes of a very disgruntled two-year-old. By lunchtime, I am already heartily sick of
purees. I’m no longer particularly hungry, but this may well be due to an intense wave of nausea that strikes as I try
to consume 12.30pm’s broccoli and sweet potato puree.
Faintly concerned that I am doing myself harm, I decide to consult nutritional therapist Janine Fahri, founder of
London’s NutriLife clinic. Her snort of derision when I tell her that I’m on the baby food diet indicates she is not a fan.
‘What’s going to be next — the cat food diet?’ is her opening comment. ‘The reason it’s called baby food is because
it’s for babies! They have small stomachs, no teeth and less sophisticated digestive systems than adults, which is
why purees are appropriate.


‘I’m an advocate of eating a little and often, but 14 times a day? Ludicrous. By all means, let’s adopt diets that are
nutrient-rich and take some of the strain off our digestive systems, as this does, but we really don’t have to pretend
to be six months old in order to do that.’
By Wednesday, puree is taking over my life. My freezer is rammed with small pots of frozen gunk and my husband is
threatening to take the blender to the tip if I do not desist.
When not downing multi-coloured purees, I am furiously blending things, but absolutely failing to judge how much
gloop will be liberated from any given vegetable. Parsnips, for example, are reluctant to give up more than a
tablespoon, while a butternut squash will happily yield enough puree to fill a paddling pool.
I should also mention at this point that, in addition to feeding purees to her clients, Tracy Anderson also advocates a
strict regime of cardiovascular exercise.
On Thursday morning, therefore, I attempt a spin class. It is an ill-advised move and I am forced to stop for fear that
my banana and red berry puree will re-emerge on the down hill sprint.
Apologies to the faint-hearted but anyone contemplating this diet should also know that there is a side effect of the
baby food ‘cleanse’ which you won’t hear the Hollywood A-list discussing around the pools of Beverly Hills —
namely, raging constipation.
By Friday, I am eyeing up the Fruit ’n’ Fibre and have had an extremely bizarre dream involving me and Cheryl Cole
arguing over a jacket potato while Jennifer Aniston does press ups beside us. I am beginning to fear for my sanity.
The final weekend of the diet is fraught. A day out at Legoland with the children presents an impossible set of
logistical problems. I cannot carry ten tubs of defrosting puree around all day - neither can I carry ten jars of baby
food.
I opt to put the diet on hold for a day and simply eat the nearest thing to puree that I can find at a theme park. I would
advise Jen, Reese, Cheryl and the rest of the Hollywood elite against availing themselves of the Jolly Rocker
swinging pirate ship after consuming a bowl of cold mash and a fruit lolly melted into a yoghurt pot.
But you want to know how much weight I lost, right? The answer is five pounds. Not bad in a week, I guess, but
absolutely not worth the man hours, blender blades and freezer space involved.
I don’t mind if I never see another puree again and have developed a strong aversion to anything with even faintly
puree-ish credentials - my relationship with houmous may have been tarnished for life.
Meanwhile the blender finally gave up the ghost on Saturday night, midway through a batch of prune and pumpkin.
Husband has been given green light to take it to the tip.

The Baby Food Diet: What the Experts Say

At best, most adults are only going to tolerate The Baby Food Diet for a few days or a week, predicts American
Dietetic Association spokesperson Jeanne Gazzaniga-Moloo, PhD, RD.

"It is an interesting concept that removes the pleasure of chewing and controls calories with portioned jars, but it
could backfire and lead to binges or overeating too many little jars," says Mooloo, a nutrition consultant based in
Sacramento, Calif.

When you choose pureed food over natural foods you miss out on valuable nutrients and fiber.

"Eat an apple or carrot instead of a jar of applesauce or carrots. It is more satisfying to crunch and chew and you
get the benefit of more fullness and fiber at much less expense," Mooloo says.

Chewing is associated with feelings of fullness and satiety that can't be replaced with pureed foods that go down
easily and may make you feel hungrier.

But if you want to try baby food, Mooloo suggests storing a few jars of low-calorie fruits and sweets in your
briefcase, drawer, or pantry for a quick, healthy, calorie-controlled alternative to higher-calorie treats.

The Baby Food Diet: Food for Thought

In my opinion, a diet of baby food is just another gimmick that will likely lose its appeal quickly because most adults
will miss grown-up meals and the satisfaction and pleasure of chewing food with texture.

Applesauce, peaches and pears may sound tasty enough. But pureed meats are more likely to send dieters running
in search of a more suitable plan.

Who hasn’t tasted baby food once or twice? But have you ever thought about eating it at every meal? Proponents of a fad diet called the Baby Food Diet propose making baby
food a diet staple for weight control, especially to feed cravings. It seems to have attracted Hollywood: stars like Jennifer Aniston have reportedly found success with it.

is that this is how you stay thin. Baby foods are fast foods that are convenient.”

As precious an idea as it may be to replace one to two meals a day with baby food, says Dariella Gaete, RD, owner of Eat Freely Nutrition Counseling and Consulting based in
Long Beach, Calif., this is just “another unsatisfying, unrealistic diet.”

The Baby Food Diet: How Does It Work?

Portion control is an important part of diet success for anyone. Followers of the Baby Food Diet rely on the fact that baby food is already presented in small packages, which
may help people monitor the amount they eat. However, there are currently no specific guidelines associated with the Baby Food Diet regarding how much baby food to eat per
day. Some people may have baby food throughout the day with one large, healthy meal at dinner, while others could choose a few jars of baby food instead of meals, plus a jar
at snack times.


The Baby Food Diet: Sample Diet

Just take a walk through the baby food aisle for the diet’s menu. Instead of breakfast and lunch, you might try jars of sweet potatoes, pureed fruit, and veggies, such as spinach

There are several concerns about the Baby Food Diet:

Fiber shortfall. Women should get about 25 grams of fiber a day for optimal health. Baby food is processed and often strained, so your choices are likely lacking in fiber. Check
the packaging, but it could be hard to meet your fiber goal on baby food alone.
Cost. Despite the overall healthiness of baby food, buying enough baby food to feed an adult every day could be costly, says Giancoli. You can make the same foods at home for
less, but then you lose the built-in portion control element.
Not for weight loss. The diet is promoted for weight-loss maintenance, not for peeling off the pounds. In fact, says Giancoli, there is a heavily promoted, fee-based weight-loss
program that is suggested for dieters to lose weight before they start the Baby Food Diet.
Boredom and sustainability. Yes, a healthy diet requires portion control and healthier food choices, but hunger and boredom are enemies of diet success — a risk in this diet,
says Gaete. “The lack of fiber, fat, and protein will cause the food to be digested quickly, leaving the person hungry in an hour or two and susceptible to binging later,” Gaete
says. “Also, baby food is very bland and there’s minimal chewing involved, so a person would be left feeling unsatisfied and craving something else.” Giancoli also doubts
that it is realistic to plan on eating baby food for life. As a rule, dietitians favor creating a healthy diet and lifestyle that can be maintained with pleasure for a long time.
Fad Diet: Short- and Long-Term Effects

This is not an eating plan that has been tested in any way; there is no evidence that this diet supports weight maintenance and there is no way to know how it would affect your
body over a long period of time. The Web site does not offer any research on the diet’s effectiveness, although it clearly states it is not for weight loss.

Giancoli also worries about the long-term effect of the diet on the adult digestive system. “Babies don’t have a sophisticated digestive system yet. Adults do, so we don’t need
to have this predigested [food]. Our digestive system is good at breaking down complex foods. You don’t want to give your digestive system a rest.”

The Baby Food Diet is another gimmicky approach. According to our nutritionists, it’s better to keep your body fueled with whole foods — fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean
proteins.

If you like the idea of eating raw, you need a great raw food diet plan to start. A balanced diet plan is at least 75% raw. A great plan is healthy and will help you both to succeed
on and enjoy raw food.

The Best Raw Food Diet Plan

But most of all, the best diet plan is the plan, you're most likely to follow. If that means you'll only succeed on a raw food diet if you add animal foods, your daily cup of coffee or
non organic food, you should keep eating them. If you can go cold turkey, 100% raw fantastic, but realize that very few people can make such change overnight.....

In addition, the best raw food diet plan is:

FUN - The plan must be fun! Full of recipes you love.
EASY - The plan must be easy and realistic to follow.
BALANCED - The plan should have the right balance of protein, good fats and carbs.

Fun

You must have fun on this diet in order to succeed. Fun foods may be raw versions of the foods you like already. Such as guacamole, pesto, salsa, ice creams, chocolate
cakes, hot chocolate, sashimi, raw cheese, raw vegan nut cheese, you're favorite salad, raw granola.

Other great fun foods you may like are super foods like goji berries, raw chocolate, raw honey, maca, young coconuts etc. In the recipe section of this website I'll add these
recipes for you to try.

Easy

It's probably best not to start out with complicated recipes that require dehydration, sprouting or other raw techniques that you don't know yet or don't have the tools for. They
may take long in the beginning and might frustrate you. Smoothies with super foods, juices and raw versions of foods you already know and like are easiest. This increases
your chances of success on the raw food diet plan.

Balanced

You're best raw food diet plan is one that is balanced. It should have carbohydrates, fats and protein, as well as other important nutrients.

Raw Food Nutrients

Where does a raw foodist get his protein, carbs and fats and how much of each should you eat? Below I'll describe the raw food sources of these important food elements.

Carbohydrates

The main source of carbohydrates are fruits. starches (carrots) and grains.

Protein

The main source of protein are germinated nuts (almonds are best), seeds, grains and green leafy vegetables. I highly recommend hemp seed as an excellent source of protein.
Also make sure you germinate your seeds and nuts, otherwise you're unlikely to absorb the protein.

How do you germinate the seeds and nuts? Just before you go to bed, you put the seeds or nuts in a cup and add purified water. The next morning they're ready to eat. (Hemp
seeds are the only seeds you don't have to germinate).

Fats

The main source of fats are again nuts and seeds, as well as avocado and coconut butter.

Nutrients

Off course it is important to eat nutrient dense foods. Raw green leafy vegetables and super foods are about the most nutrient dens foods (meaning that they have the most
nutrients per calorie). So make sure you"ll get enough of these. The easiest way to eat greens is to juice or blend them and mix them with fruits (like apples or bananas) or
herbs (like parsley).

Raw Food Diet Menu

Now you can put your menu together. Here's an example of an simple raw food diet plan:

Breakfast

Fresh fruit, coconut water or green juice, oatmeal.

Lunch

Super foods smoothie, cucumber sandwich or coleslaw.

Dinner

Soup and spaghetti.

Drinks

Pure water, fresh vegetable juice, smoothies, coconut water, nut milk.

The best diet plan is a personalized diet plan. Should you eat mostly carbs, protein or fats? This depends on your constitution and might take some time to figure out. If you have

Raw Food for Weight Loss

Weight loss is almost certain on this diet: the live food is high in water, fiber and nutrition thus you won't get hungry quickly. Actually, it's hard not to lose weight. In addition,
you'll eat more alkaline foods which also aid in weight loss. On average an overweight person will loose about 2 pounds a week.

Vegan

2 apples
1 banana
1 tablespoon golden flax seed
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Pure water

Directions

Put the flax seeds in the purified water and let sit overnight.

Peel the apples and cut them in smaller parts (for the blender). Peel the banana en break in parts. Rinse the flax seeds.

Put all ingredients in a blender. This can be a hand blender or high speed blender such as Vitamix. Add 1/4 cup water, just enough to let the mixture blend well. Blend all
ingredients until smooth. You may want to add a little more water if it's too thick.

Tip

You make make this recipe even better by replacing the water with almond cream or fresh juice. You may also add a tablespoon of hemp seeds. My daughter likes to add
(germinated) nuts and raisins. You can prepare this recipe the night before (but put the banana in there in the morning). Especially with nuts and dried fruits in it, it will only taste
better!

This is my daughter's favorite breakfast. She has been eating this for more than three years almost every morning. I like this breakfast because it has healthy ingredients that are
easy to get: especially, the fiber, good fats and protein of the flax seeds.

Hemp & Berry Smoothie

Serves 2

1 banana
2 tablespoons hulled hemp seed
1 bag of frozen berries
1 cup pure water

Directions

Put all ingredients in a high speed blender. Add enough water so that all ingredients are covered. Blend well.

You may want to add a little more water if it's too thick. You may blend longer if you find it too cold.

Tip

This is such a yummy and easy breakfast recipe. This is the other breakfast my daughter loves, but we drink this for lunch too.

The hemp seeds provide good fats and super protein. Hemp seeds are the only seeds that have no enzyme inhibitor and therefore don't have to be soaked in water before eating.

If the berries are sour, you may add a few drops of (liquid) stevia to sweeten.

Carrot Juice

Serves 1

2 pounds carrots
1/2 lemon

Directions

Wash the lemon and cut most of the peel off. Juice the lemon and the carrots. Ready!

Tip

Personally, I like to scrape the carrots, because I don't like the earthy taste when I don't.

If I take this juice for breakfast, I feel so good the rest of the day. It gives me instant energy.

I also like to juice about a 1/2 bunch green leafy vegetables with the carrots for extra alkalizing minerals. Carrot greens, kale or lettuce are a good choice. Apples, celery and fennel
also go well with carrot juice. If you're a beginner, start to add only one or two leafs of greens to make sure you still like it. Greens are an acquired taste and it may take some time
for you to get use to.

Young Coconut Water

Open the coconut with a cleaver. Talking about easy, quick and healthy!

Tip

You may pour the water in the jar of a high speed blender and some or all of the milk. Blend and you get yourself coconut milk. You can also pour some of the milk into ice cubes - it
freezes really easily - and whenever you make a smoothie you can add some coconut milk ice cube for an even more delicious smoothie. Especially quick for breakfast.

Green Drink

Serves 1

Directions

Add one scoop to the water and mix. Ready!

Tip

You can put this in a water bottle and take with you. If you don't like the taste of the green powder, you may add some lemon juice or add to another juice.

Banana Pancakes

1 banana
2 tablespoons coconut meal or dried coconut flakes
cinnamon

Directions

Mash the banana with a fork in a bowl until very smooth. Add the coconut meal and some cinnamon to taste. Mix well.

Flatten the banana/coconut dough and make small pancakes of them

Leave out in direct sunlight for about 1 hour, flip over and leave for another hour. You may also use the dehydrator or oven. But then it will take longer to dry them.

They don't have to be dry, just on the outsides. They're so good anyway that they're usually gone before I want to serve them.

Tip

If you make them the night before, you can take them to go for breakfast in the morning.

In the US you can buy raw granola at most health food stores. You may eat this with vanilla yogurt (see recipe below), almond milk or apple avocado mouse. Another yummy

yogurt made from dairy. It's delicious as a yogurt desert, for breakfast with granola or you can put in in your ice maker machine and you get delicious ice cream.

Apple Avocado Mousse

1 avocado
2 apples
1/4 cup purified water

Directions

Peal the apples and take out the core. Take the avocado meat out of the avocado. Put the two ingredients in a bowl. Mix well with a hand mixer.
