Saddlebags Defined
The term "saddlebags" used to describe a pair of bags (or pouches)
that hung over the backside of a horse. Riders used it for
carrying their items. However, it is also a term now used to describe
women who have larger than normal hip and thigh fat.
Miriam-Webster Dictionary defines it as "a bulge of lumpy fat in the outer area of the thigh."
Body Fat Produces Saddlebags
Fat can be deposited anywhere in the body; however, women have a tendency to store it in two or three
key places: the abdominalarea, the hips or the thighs.
Although most women would prefer not to have fat at all, if you have to have it, you do want it on your
thighs or hips instead of around your belly. The reason for this is due to the type of fat each body part
stores and how detrimental onetype is in comparison to another.
The two types are subcutaneous and visceral.
Visceral fat
This type of fat is the most detrimental to a person's health and can lead to all kinds
of medical problems. This is due to several
reasons. One reason is this kind of fat is generally found deep
in the abdominal cavity of the body, wrapped around the heart, liver and
other organs of the body; therefore, it has more of an impact on
our health than fat located in the lower part of our bodies.
Subcutaneous Fat
If you can physically see--or feel--the fat on your body or you can pinch an inch
as some people say, that is subcutaneous fat.
Subcutaneous fat lies just beneath the skin, and having some of it is considered essential
to life--but only so much is needed in that
way, of course. Our bodies use some subcutaneous fat to insulate us,
keeping us warm during the winter. But, an abundance of this
type of fat is also detrimental to our health. However,
subcutaneous fat is far better to carry on your body than visceral fat, because it
presents fewer serious health concerns. It is this type of fat that is located
on the thighs of women, thus prompting the term saddlebags.

can help you fight the fat that creates your saddlebags
In addition to exercises that target this problem area, it is

as an excellent diuretic and weight loss aid
as well as a good general heart tonic which can help stimulate circulation.
It is also used in Brazil and Haiti as a tea to help relieve
coughs, regulate renal function, reduce uric acid and externally to heal wounds.

little has been done to analyze the plant phytochemicals.
Cha de Bugre is known to contain caffeine, potassium, allantoin and allantoic acid.
The red fruits or berries of chá de bugre
(resembling a coffee bean) contain caffeine.
The allantoin and allantoic acid may explain the traditional use of the plant for wound
healing. The main plant chemicals include allantoin, allantoic acid, caffeine, potassium.
In 1990 however, a Japanese University discovered some new uses for chá de bugre.
They showed that Cha de Bugre leaf extract
reduced herpes virus penetration by 99% when they pre-treated cells with the extract.
In 1994, they showed that the Herpes virus yield was reduced by 33%
with as little as 0.25 mcg/ml and also discovered that it had toxic
activity against cancer cells (demonstrating a 40% inhibition) utilizing an extract of the branches and leaves.
Then in 1997, research with rabbits and guinea pigs validated
the traditional use of the plant as a heart tonic when they reported
cardiotonic and increased cardiovascular actions using a leaf extract.
CURRENT PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF CHA DE BUGRE
Cha de Bugre is a great appetite suppressant,
but rather than stopping appetite completely (then causing intense hunger when it
wears off at the wrong time) it gives one a sense of being full and
satiated after eating only a few bites of food.
This seems to promote much smaller meals, more often,
which is what many practitioners believe is better for sustained weight loss
and keeping the metabolism going throughout the day.
It works best if taken 30 minutes to one hour prior to a meal.

to trim the fat and tone your muscles. The best moves are those that target
your upper legs while also burning calories.

doctor before starting a new exercise routine.


Cardiovascular Exercise

Cardiovascular exercise can't get rid of just your saddlebags. However, this type of exercise burns
calories, which blasts fat all over
your body, including in your thighs and hips. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend
getting at least 150 minutes
of aerobic exercise each week, though you might need to double this number for effective weight loss,
particularly if you already
exercise periodically. Choose activities that also target your upper legs for the most benefit. Biking, step

Saddlebag Slimmer

The saddlebag slimmer, given its name, is an ideal exercise to include in your routine. You can do the move
right in the comfort of your
own home without any equipment. To do the exercise, start on your hands and knees. Use an exercise mat
if you have wood floors,
which makes the move more comfortable. Lower your right hip to the floor, stacking your knees and ankles
and resting your hip on
the ground. Support your upper body by resting your palms on the ground at about chest level on your left
side, elbows straight. Bring
your left knee into your chest, bend your elbows and lower your chest toward the floor at the same time.
Return to the starting
position, lower your right hip toward floor and repeat the move. Do at least 12 repetitions, two or three
times per week.


Dumbbell Step Up

Stepping engages all of the muscles in your lower body, making it an effective choice for slimming your
saddlebags. Holding
dumbbells increases your overall body weight, which makes your legs work harder during the move. To do
a step up, stand in front of
an exercise step or small stool, holding a dumbbell in each hand. Lift your left foot onto the stool and plant
if firmly for balance. Follow
with your right foot. Step back with your left foot, following with your right. Alternate legs with each step to
ensure that both sides of
your body are worked equally.


Squats

Squats are easy to do and don't require any equipment, but they provide big benefits to your thighs. To do a
squat, stand with your feet
about hip-width apart, arms at your sides. Slowly lower your body as if you are sitting into a chair. Stop when
your knees reach a
90-degree angle. Return to the starting position to complete one squat. Hold dumbbells in your hands to
increase the saddlebag
